Control acquisition and operations costs.
CAStor 4.0 improves operational and reporting efficiency.
Improve the economics of your storage with massive scalability and off-the-shelf hardware and bring new visibility into your storage with Intelligent Platform Management Interface and SMART disk drives. The CAStor 4.0 release helps lower TCO and accelerates the payback on your IT investments.
Streamline software upgrades and hardware repairs. New!
Updating software or repairing a network fault are now smoother than ever. Admins can temporarily suspend the automatic failed volume recovery efforts from the storage console interface to streamline cluster maintenance.
Quickly identify a single volume within large clusters. New!
Quickly spot a faulty drive by flashing the disk drive light from the storage admin console.
Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI) support. New!
CAStor now makes extensive use of IPMI and SMART disk drives to improve operations and reporting efficiency. CAStor leverages IPMI to monitor the health of the CPU, disk drives and other components with the cluster and alert administrators if a potential problem emerges.
Make runtime changes using persistent cluster settings. New!
CAStor's admin storage console persists values for a select number of configuration parameters that
allow on-the-fly runtime changes without a reboot.
Available persistent cluster settings include: logging, multicast, volume recovery suspension.
Simplified Management
Easy to implement. Plug a Caringo USB key into a computer, and the key will load all operating system and application software needed to turn the system into a CAStor node. Add another machine and it automatically configures itself, joins the network and activities of the other CAStor nodes in the cluster.
Self managing clusters. Symmetric cluster architecture evenly distributes processing across all nodes. Operation requests go to the nodes best able to handle them to optimize performance. CAStor organically balances storage and CPU loads.
Self healing clusters. The polices set for each object are checked and enforced. Should something fail, the system automatically recovers. If a disk goes down, all disks participate in the recovery effort. The larger the cluster, the faster the recovery.
Massively scale capacity. Scale by simply inserting one, or more nodes into the cluster. Additional capacity is automatically available; no provisioning by an administrator. Minimize administrative overhead to increase storage up to 2 Petabytes of capacity in a single cluster.
Seamlessly upgrade and retire hardware. Add new server-node hardware to the cluster then simply retire the old server and remove from the cluster. Upgrade server technology at your own pace. Leverage price performance curve of commodity servers as it becomes available.
Cluster in a box support for multi-processors. CAStor virtualizes single nodes as well as clusters so with a few quick changes to the config file of CAStor, a 48TB node can be configured into a 6 node virtual cluster. The change drives performance levels to ranges never before seen.
Network boot large clusters. Boot server nodes directly from the network instead of from an individual USB key. Enables the centralized cluster configuration needed for large implementations. Reduced administrative overhead for managing large clusters.
Uses Standard Protocols
Open HTTP interface. Applications interface to CAStor using industry standard HTTP 1.1. No API's. No porting. Quick development and the ability to utilize existing HTTP client libraries in use throughout the industry.
SNMP support. Leverage an existing systems management platform to manage/administer the cluster as another element in the network.
NTP support. Supports external network clock synchronization to ensure accurate time stamping of content stored in and events/activities within the storage environment using standard, open time server infrastructure.
Syslog server support. Alerts can be sent to a Syslog server for standard reporting, diagnosing alerts or establishing audit trails.
Choose Your Hardware
Runs on standard servers. Combine specs, vendors and generations of standard x86 servers all in the same cluster. As new technology becomes available, just plug it into your CAStor cluster. You are not locked into a costly, inflexible strategy that conflicts with any new or future requirements.
Extends the life of older servers. Over time, retire older technology or designate them as archive nodes with CAStor Darkive™ to spin down and us as needed. CAStor organically optimizes cluster utilization and makes the most out of all available hardware.
Admin Support
CaringoConnect online user community. CaringoConnect is an online user community complete with software downloads, sample programs, help, documentation, community bulletin boards and technical support.
Web-based storage administrative console. Manage, monitor and control the entire cluster from a web-based management and administration user interface. Manage both physical and virtual CAStor nodes.
